Nature Knights: Bhutan-Tigers-Nest

Bhutan, Tigers Nest, Near Paro.

Taktsang Dzong or Paro Taktsang also known as the The Tigers Nest, a Tibetan Buddhist Monastery of the Nyingma (Red Hat School), located in the cliffside of upper Paro Valley, Bhutan. It was built in 1692, around the Taktsang Senge Samdup cave where Guru Padmasambhava is said to have meditated for three months in the 8th century. Padmasambhava is credited with introducting Buddhism to Bhutan and is the tutelary diety of the country. Today, Paro Taksang is the best know of the 13th Taktsang or "Tigers Lair" caves in which he meditated.

Distance between Paro and Tiger's Nest: 12 kilometers. Trek distance for Tiger's Nest: 4.5 kilometers one way

Tiger's Nest Monastery, Paro, Bhutan - High Altitude, Steep Incline and Rough Terrain. It's a steep gruelling hike up to the Tiger's Nest Monastery, perched on the side of a Himalayan mountain at 3,120 metres (10,240 ft)

The climb is three hour climbing up and couple of hours of descend); Ponies are also available for going up till half way. An occasional trekker who is not very fit may find it going tough while climbing; any average fit trekker will do it at a leisurely pace. Start early morning if you wish to enjoy the trek; also the Taktsang is closed for lunch break; so plan your climb accordingly.
